For the Injured Worker:
Injured workers in California
often have funds for learning
computer skills, as an insurance benefit.
Since 1989 we have trained injured workers through worker's compensation plans.
Our training has been funded by all major insurance carriers for job skill training
Many injured workers never learned (or needed) computer skills before. Others have worked with older software, or had a period of not using the program, and simply need to renew those skills.
Our training is one-on-one. This means we can go at your pace, and you can learn computer skills more easily than you would in a classroom where 20 people are waiting to be helped.
We also teach speech-recognition programs. This lets you operate your computer by voice--you talk instead of typing. Your keyboard and mouse still work if you want to use them. But this is a great solution for people who have injuries. And it's a good way to prevent those injuries in the first place.
Frequently Asked Questions:
- Where is the class? Training is online. You and the instructor both see your computer screen, and work together on your skill and your document.
- Practice computer? Most computers with Microsoft Office will do the job. Workers comp benefits often include funds for a computer. .
- How often are the classes? Classes are usually twice a week, 2 hours each class.
- How can I master the skills? Between classes you will have practice documents, videos of your lesson, and guide notes to secure your skills.
- How can I show these skills on job interviews? You can create a portfolio of documents you have made. And--show what you can do!.
Funding for Injured Worker Computer Programs
- Funding for programs: Our programs are not funded by state or federal student financial aid programs (WIOA/WIA funds). They are paid for by individuals, law firms, and Worker’s Comp insurance companies. If you are an injured worker, please see our Injured Workers' page.
- Workers who are injured on the job may be entitled to insurance funds to learn computer skills or other skills. Insurance companies, with whom employers insure them, can review training programs chosen by the worker, and issue payment to a training provider for those programs.
